“Mick Phillips and I go back more than 15 years. He has been a trusted advisor and friend, providing legal counsel for my company on a wide range of business matters - from tideland leases to subsidiary formations to contracts. Mick is thoroughly competent, responsive, knowledgeable, and experienced. He makes it his business to know mine.”
— J.L. Gibbons, Seattle Shellfish
Mick Phillips’ roots in Southwest Washington run deep. His people have been business owners — many in the construction industry— for four generations. So it is no surprise that when he speaks of his work and the people he serves, it is with visceral enthusiasm and a deep-seated respect.
The Olympia native has been representing businesses, lenders, landowners, contractors, and individuals in business, real estate, and land use matters for more than 40 years. He has been involved in a wide range of residential, commercial, and industrial transactions and projects, from small real estate acquisitions to multi-million dollar developments and business consolidations.
“Because of my family background, it was a natural fit for me to focus a large part of my practice on serving the business community, including financial institutions,” said Mick. “I like to think that emphasis has served my clients well over the years. I am able to assist them in developing complex business transaction structures, and buying and selling businesses, commercial real estate, industrial property, and timberlands.”
“I relish taking a complex project and determining how to bring the various elements together to maximize my clients’ needs and aspirations. It’s immensely rewarding work."
— Richard "Mick" Phillips
In addition to his corporate and transactional practice, Mick has represented numerous development clients before hearing examiners, local legislative bodies, state courts, and administrative tribunals on land use permitting matters and appeals. A regular presenter at professional real estate and development events, he is a highly visible and active participant in community affairs, currently serving on the Providence St. Peter Hospital Foundation board of directors, where he is vice president.
